Meaning you are under tipping because your server wont get it?  Yes, that's rude.  Don't take the server leaving into consideration at all. Their shifts will balance out, next time the server you had will be coming on and getting tips she didn't serve.  And many places divide the tips.

It’s NEVER rude to put money in a tip jar. That’s what it’s for. Every place has a different method of distributing it, but they’ll likely still get their share. At my job the tips get divided weekly. They keep a list of all the hours everyone worked, and divide the weeks tips by the number of hours worked.

A dollar is not a big tip so if you had good service then yes it was rude but then again there is no set tipping amount. If you had bad service then by all means tip less money
