The Sugar Sweet Company is going to transport its sugar to market. It will cost $7500 to rent trucks, and it will cost an additional $250 for each ton of sugar transported. Let C represent the total cost (in dollars), and let S represent the amount of sugar (in tons) transported. Write an equation relating C to S.

C = 7500 + 250S
• C = total cost = cost of renting trucks & transporting sugar
• We are told that it costs $7500 to rent trucks, so 7500 = given.
• S = # of tons of sugar. We now that it costs $250 PER TON, so we use 250S to represent that. We have no idea how many tons there are, but if someone told us there were 13, we'd plug 13 in for S.

cost = 250 * amount of sugar + 7500 cost of trucks
C = 250S + 7500 <––––––
