The hard drive is what gets reset on a PC, so I don't understand your question.

A hard drive, is a component that helps make up a PC.  So by re-formatting the hard drive, you now have a PC that is ready for an installation of an operating system.

hard drives can be formatted, and data will be lost. The PC's recovery partition can reset the PC back to the way it was with a fresh install of windows 10.

are you talking about a recovery partition? or by clearing all the data by formatting?

Yes. It's called format. The procedure erases everything! Any amount of formatting won't revive a damaged hard drive though.

Depends on what you mean by that.

If you can return the hard drive to the way it came from the factory by deleting all partitions and formatting the drive.  That would wipe everything off the drive and make it the way it came from the factory

But I suspect that is not what you mean.  I suspect that hard drive came installed in your computer with Windows on it.  And that would you want to do is to restore it to the way it came from the vendor with Windows on it.  That depends on the make of computer.  Some companies provide a way to do that using a hidden partition on the drive that has the original software in it.  That is copied to the main partition of the drive and returns it to "factory settings."  That is what you are actually doing when you reset a PC to factory settings.  You are overwritten the hard drive with the original software.

It's not called a factory reset, it's Format.

formatting the drive has that effect ... it rewrites the partition table, deletes or zeroes reference to the motherboard drivers and operating system, and eliminates all secondary partitions.

A 'hard drive' is part of a PC so your question makes no real sense.

It is.  True fact, thumb dowmers.
