The reason is simply because they want more followers. They don't care about you, or any of your posts. The next time someone follows you, first take a look at their feed before you decide to follow back. If they have hundreds or thousands of followers, but they only "follow" 100 people, then clearly they only care about the number of followers they have. Don't worry so much. Most of these people have very uninteresting feeds and are totally full of themselves.
