Why does this store close the self checkouts?

The Fred Meyer in my town added 2 new self check sections with with 6 self checks but they close them down early at night like really early at night like at 6 pm and the store gets really, really, really busy then especially the one self check section they don't close the line at that one gets really, really long why do they close them down then?

    I wouldn't know, maybe something to do with covid 19 protocols. If they're busy, they won't have time to regularly clean the self check outs. But if they're closing self check outs during a busy time, they should add more cashiers.

    possibly because they don't have the manpower to watch everyone
