Do conservative Christians still have any real influence upon the Republicans, or is it mostly a thing of the past?
But their efforts have very little impact upon society and government...

Depends on what you mean by conservative Christians?

The bible condones slavery/racism, homophobia, sexism, etc. The evangelicals blend church and state. The reps set a place for inequality at their table then deny the bigotry because there's no formal invitation. They don't want to risk losing security in numbers.
Separate church/state, edit the hate out of the bible.
As we speak, righties are furious about sanitizing racist images out of Dr. Seuss. They feel it slipping away.

Conservative Christians are still a very substantial part of the GOP's base, so Republicans will have to at least give them lip service for some time to come. Though yes, it does seem like their actual impact on policies and society at large has been slender as of late (blocking Merrick Garland's Supreme Court appointment and packing the Court with conservative judges seems the most significant move. We'll see if Roe v Wade gets overturned in the long run). Perhaps a more interesting question is does the Republican party have a significant influence on conservative Christians? They were very adamant about the need for high moral character in elected leaders when Bill Clinton was in office, yet they fervently supported the very morally compromised Donald Trump. And on issues like global warming or immigration it would be very easy to make a Christian case for preserving God's creation for future generations, or the need to welcome all of God's children. Yet "compassionate conservatism" seems to be marginal at best.

Varying. Republicans tend to be hedonistic but take stances against abortion and contraception to
A) get evangelicals out to vote
B)to confuse and split the Catholic vote which is traditionally Democrat

Yes. Their influence is very big. Their the only reason abortion is something the republicans are against. The old school republicans did not give 2 sh*ts about abortions. They believed it's not the government place to tell you what to do with your guns or with your uterus.

I thought they were interchangeable.
