It's time for patients to understand that 80 percent of diseases in the United States are caused by lifestyle problems entirely beyond their control, but that failure to accept this contributes to the diseases we treat every day.

We are to blame for everything from cancer to diabetes to heart disease and strokes, but we refuse to accept it or take constructive steps to prevent it.

They love being able to "wave a magic wand" and relieve pain and suffering and pharmaceuticals give them the ability to do that in many cases.  Unfortunately not all conditions can be treated with drugs and many doctors do not have the knowledge or experience to deal with chronic issues.
