    If you mean Columbus, he was actually going to the Indonesian Islands, which were called the Indies back then. That's why after he landed in the Caribbean Islands they were nicknamed the West Indies and the Indonesian Islands the East Indies. The Spice Islands were part of the Indonesian Islands, Columbus was after spices.
