What’s the difference between the Republican Party and the party under Donald Trump?
What you mean, what was different about the Republican Party under Trump. He tried to bring an air of Populist Conservatism to the Party, which has barely existed for a long, long time. Perhaps since Reagan, as opposed to establishment politics that has now existed for years. Average Conservatives have been clamoring for this Populist Conservatism for all this time. For someone who is willing to deal with long standing issues that have been hurting those Conservatives for all this time.
Trump was only moderately successful, But average Conservatives will be now looking for more of this in their next president, which includes someone who will give more than just lip service.

Right now, the Republican Party is once again attempting "damage control" from another bad presidential choice.
Traditionally, Republicans have supported and wealthy and big business for their power. The Democrats have supported the working American for their power base.
True, Republicans are right wing in most ideologies but this time they "allowed" Trump's mental illness and his growing Fascism to represent them. When they had a chance to step up and speak out against him, Mitch McConnell gave him a slap on the back of the wrist in public. Now, they are attempting damage control. too late.
