What does 'very fond' mean here?

'There are lots of people who are very fond of you'.

To be fond of someone means to have affectionate feelings towards them. It's more than "like" and less than "love".

Note though that we can use the expression about things other than people: "I'm very fond of fish. I eat it at least four times a week". Obviously you don't feel affectionate towards the fish. It just means that you like it a lot.
