The secondary coil of a step-up transformer provides the voltage that operates an electrostatic air filter. The turns ratio of the transformer is 41:1. The primary coil is plugged into a standard 120-V outlet. The current in the secondary coil is 2.0 x 10-3 A. Find the power consumed by the air filter.

    secondary voltage is 120•41 = 4920 volts

    2.0 x 10-3 A ?? what does this mean ?

    that is 20–3 = 17 amps, much too high...

    power is secondary is 4920•17 = 83640 watts, a silly result.
