We could have another pandemic just as bad as COVID at any time.  They are more common these days because there are more people on earth, they live closer together, and they travel more.

And if COVID has taught us anything, it's that we need a good solid national strategy for dealing with pandemics, and that using them for political purposes only means a lot more people will die.
