Can you help me with English please?

It’s really sad that, despite wrestling being such a popular sport in India.

India wrestlers have disappointed in the Olympics.

1. What do these words "that" and "despite" mean in this case?

2. What does the preposition "such" mean in this case?

Thank you.

There is sentence has a section in the middle of it that is separated from the rest of the sentence,  If you take out that section you will be able to understand what the word "that" means.

"It's really sad that India wrestlers have disappointed in the Olympics".

The word "despite" can be replaced by the phrase "even though".

"even though wrestling is such a popular sport in India"

Probably clearest way to say the sentence in English would be to move the phrase between the commas to the end of the sentence.

" It’s really sad that India wrestlers have disappointed in the Olympics, even though wrestling is such a popular sport in India. ."

It's written incorrectly in the first place.  It's only one sentence not two, but for some reason, someone made it into two sentences. Was it you, or the original author?  This is how to say it in CORRECT English:

"It’s really sad that, despite wrestling being such a popular sport in India, IndiaN wrestlers have disappointed in the Olympics."

Note it's "IndiaN wrestlers" with an -n, not "IndiA wreslters".

The word such        it emphasizes how much people like it

The word despite means          in this case, the author expects the result to be different; the author expects Indian wrestlers to be better in the Olympics; despite emphasizes that the author believes they should have been better

The word that is harder to explain. It's sort of like a situation exists oh, it is the way that a lot of people speak, I think if you read more sentences that have that in it, you might naturally figure it out on your own without even understanding how it works.

"That" tells the reader that what follows the word "that" is the reason for "It's really sad".

"Despite" means "even though" in this context.

Also, it should be "Indian" wrestlers, not "India" wrestlers.
