Why were the Jews persecuted when the Jews never persecuted anyone? ?
The Jews never genocide any other race in history. They kept to themselves but others targeted them.

Just as kids are bullied even though they didn't do anything to the bully, people can be persecuted even though they didn't do anything to their persecutors.

Early Christians considered Judaism to be a competitor; so they "bad-mouthed" Jews and made up lies about them as a means of increasing the number of adherents to their religion. This practice continued for millennia, and many Christians (especially Roman Catholicism) became increasingly brutal towards Jews (as well as Muslims), turning them into scapegoats. Note the Vatican's silence during the Holocaust.

Because Jews were very calm.

I don't want my answer to be perceived as anti-Semitic, but please read the Bible. The Canaanites and Amalekites were both subject to genocide. This is not something we should dwell on but it's a fact according to Scripture, which may be inaccurate, but it is not the case that they didn't persecute anyone as a people.

Never underestimate the power of envy. The Jews in Medieval Europe were wealthy landlords. The Jews were also blamed for killing Jesus.
