Lol is something you think to get your message across as sometimes it is hard to differentiate as to what is funny it's so sad.

No. That is used for something mildly funny that gets a smile or maybe a bit of a chuckle. If I am actually laughing out loud, it's LMAO. Or if I am busting a gut and find something hilarious, it's ROFLMFAO.
