If you're writing for young children, yes. Anyone above the age of 12 would prefer an actual real story to be told, not wish fulfillment.

It is not love when all that either of them can think about is how sad and helpless she is. In real life neither of them would last a day.

What's this got to do with books?

If a man falls in love with a girl, he falls in love with the girl because of her beauty, her personality or her character. If he is a wise man, all three things contribute to the reason he loves her. She could be homely if glanced at, but her personality and good character will make her plain looks attractive. He does not fall for her because she is poor or works on a farm or bicycles miles to school. If she loves him, it is not because he is rich.
My mother and aunts lived in such a house, worked on the farm, walked several miles to school (and in Manitoba, those were very cold, windy winter walks), and left home to work in the city after leaving elementary school at 15. None of them married wealth, though all lived comfortably and loved the men they married.
Besides a man of sense would likely marry a girl who knows how to keep a frugal but warm house.

Of course not. Financial status is completely irrelevant. What you're describing here sounds more like pity.

Consider yourself firmly shaken by the shoulders until your teeth clack, because you are not listening.
Genuine love has nothing to do with income. It has to do with knowing one another very well over a period of time.
If a man who is not poor truly loves a woman who is very poor, it's still love.
