Native English speakers, could you please help me with these issues?

When speaking of many sports (such as athletics or gymnastics) which usually has many stages before reaching the final, would it correct to say (in reference to one of those stages):

"She finished her EVENT in second place."

    Yes provided that you offer more context with it like: She finished her event in second place, and now can proceed to the next stage of the competition.
