In my opinion, a toxic fan of anything is one who accepts whatever the company puts out without any critism and then constantly defends it to others who want to have a conversation, as if is saying a movie was bad is a direct attack on their family. People like that encourage companies to try less and put out more bad content.

They're the ones who believe that only their vision is right, and that the franchise somehow belongs to them.  They're the ones who sent death threats to John Boyega, because they believed all storm troopers should be white, and rape threats to Daisy Ridley, because they believed all Jedi should be men.  They're the ones who insist the last three movies should be forgotten and remade about a group of heroic white guys saving the world.  They're a small group, but their toxicity has destroyed other people's love of Star Wars since they don't want to be associated with these creeps.

as ignorant of the saga i have the impression that star wars is like the drug, once you start you can't never leave it. at least not without the help of a medical team and serious rehabilitation.
