The universe is governed by laws of nature that themselves have no purpose other than dictating what matter and energy do. Stars, for example, convert hydrogen into helium, and they have no choice in the matter once they reach a certain size and temperature.

If it does have a purpose, then we insignificant humans are irrelevant to it.

Technically, everything has a purpose, whether we see it or not. For example, the chair you are sitting in serves a purpose. Even though somebody on the other side of the world may not feel that the chair that you are sitting on,  serves a purpose to them.

The bed you sleep on or the air you are breathing, may not serve a purpose to me, but it serves a purpose to you.

So yes the entire universe as a whole serves a purpose for something.

I also learned that if any thing in the universe is off by 1 degree, then the universe wouldn't function the way it does.

No, the universe has no purpose. It does not need to have a purpose. It is the religious who attempt to deceive people it to believing it must have a purpose. If they were to tell the truth and admit that the universe had no purpose they would not be able to bring their god into things.

The universe does not have a purpose. It does not need to have a purpose. Do not be deceived into thinking it should have one.

If it does, we’re probably too small and too new to it to know...

I think the universe occurred naturally, with no purpose, and that Man is a byproduct of it...

The purpose of universe is really up to its creator, as we can see that its constellations consist of 88 , while on this very earth there are 88 elements that exist in its equilibrium and stable state .
