Sociologists, not "trans-gender apologists", draw a distinction between sex and gender. Sex refers to biological characteristics, while gender has to do with social roles and personal identification. That's what they mean.

Don't be so down on yourself, Gervasius. You don't have to be "stupid and crazy" just because you said one ignorant thing. Everyone makes mistakes.

That's not what they generally say, but gender is really social class based on the presumed relationship with reproduction, and that is not biological except trivially in the sense that all human activity is biological.

Some proponents of this have tried to separate "sex" from "gender" claiming the former is biological while the latter is social. Which one can sort of get their heads around. But new "science" that preaches both sex and gender are indeterminate and that readable chromosomes are irrelevant is taking it too far. IMHO

Sex is biological whereas gender is a social construct. There are 3 sexes (though the third is rare), and gender is something that depends on the person and how they feel.

Trans activists no longer say this. They said this 10 years ago. Ten years ago they meant sex is biological and "gender" is the _stereotypes associated_ with your sex (e.g. girls like wearing dresses and makeup). That was the old feminists understanding of the world. Today they no longer believe biological sex exists or is real or important.

They mean to say that gender is a social construct, so they can't be wrong on any nonsense they say. It's basically a way of shutting down the discussion and giving themselves the victory no matter what argument you make.

The flaw with this argument is that social constructs are constructed socially, not within the mind of an individual. When you're claiming that your gender is something and you claim this based on your own personal feelings then you are not arguing from a framework of social agreement and shared assumptions, but from a framework of personal feelings and personal thoughts.
