What does the teardrop behind a characters head mean in a Japanese anime show?

I've seen this in MANY different shows, usually comedies and wondered what it meant? Frustration of the character? This is from the show Nichijou.

I think it's supposed to be sweat.  When the character is facing you, this is more obvious.  It's like a nervous worry and usually pairs with astonishment - maybe for someone else.  In this case, the girl is worried for someone who is an idiot.

The fact that she's facing away from 'camera' they put it on the back of her head, but usually, it's off the forehead.
