Hey everyone. After my boyfriend gets done with basic and AIT, and once we get married one day, how long will it take to be able to get into DEERS, be his power of attorney, etc?

As soon as he has an original of the marriage certificate along with your birth certificate and ssn he can have you entered into DEERS.
POAs are not automatic he needs to see legal and get one done. He doesn’t have to if he doesn’t want to. Often that will only be if he will being deployed.
As he is going into the Reserves he will not BAH w/dependents unless he is Activated. Tricare for both of you will cost more than he makes per month with his drill pay as well. The only thing really you get is base/post access.

Once you have the marriage certificate, enrollment into DEERS takes about twenty minutes. You get your ID which grants you access to base and most base facilities.
You won’t ‘be’ his POA. He might grant you a POA if warranted.. typically only when he deploys.
Any change in his financial status( BAH, etc) takes about 45 days and is back dated. For Tricare, you are covered under Standard the day you are enrolled into DEERS. Prime requires enrollment, and depending on when you do so, goes live either the first of the month( if you enroll prior to the 20th of the month, or the first of the second month following, if enrolled after the 20th. )

You can get it all done the same day if you hurry. But most take a week or two because they're more interested in honeymooning than paperwork.

How long to get into Deers: 1 hour filling out paper work at a Deers office.
