Has a team ever traded away a draft pick, for a player, and that pick eventually became the overall 1st pick ?

    Don’t know about the 1st pick, but in 1990 the Colts traded Chris Chandler for the Buccaneers 1st round pick. The Bucs finished with the 2nd worst record so the Colts had the top two picks of the 1992 draft.

    Cowboys trade Ron Francis, David Howard, Eugene Lockhart, the 11th pick (Pat Harlow) and a second round pick (Jerome Henderson) to the Patriots for the first overall pick (Russel Maryland)..

    Yes.  In 1926 the Toledo Blue Boils traded their number one pick for Lance Grimble.  The pick turned out to be the number one overall.  You may have heard of the player drafted with this pick.  Andrew McStockingin?
