How do you get over a trading card buying addiction that is like a gambling addiction?
The thrill of opening packs and boxes can make a person spend a lot of money on sports trading cards, and one can lose a lot of money this way, because you are never guaranteed to break even, even if you hold the cards a long time. How do you get over being addicted to buying trading cards boxes or packs and opening them, because it is a type of gambling addiction? How do you make it a habit to just save money?

Hobbies should be about spending your discretionary income........not pissing your rent money away.
You need to learn to BUDGET and get your priorities straight.
Rent, Bills, FOOD, whatever else, gas money, etc.......
and what's left over...... if any........on hobbies and entertainment.
