It's inflation. Unless you're in the 1%, your salary doesn't keep up with inflation. For example, adjusted for inflation, the median income in the 1960s was more than $80,000, whereas now it's well below $50,000. The poor get poorer and the rich get richer. That's the good ol' US of A

the general DESIRE of CAPITALISM  is to make MONEY

the NUMBER of CUSTOMERS does not DIRECTLY produce HIGHER   PROFIT  .. that is dependent on COST  of  supplies  and overhead  and a PRICE that  increases PROFITS

example 10 customers in an hour  paying $ 1.00 for a burger

is not Equal to 10 customers in a hour purchasing a product costing   $5.99

No such thing as Good Food for a dollar. Not even at the Dollar Tree.

Most places still have a value menu and some like Del Taco still have a section with dollar items although the price of the ingredients, cooking, and  labor to make them have gone up.
