The term conventional warfare is normally used to mean non-nuclear war. By that definition, the US could wipe the South Africa off the map without putting a single member of the military on the ground.

New York City Police Department could defeat South Africa.

Stupid question.  One division of USMC has far more fire power and soldiers than all of South Africa.  Are you that ignorant?

US has more stuff. But no country would opt for a conventional war when it can keep the enemy occupied with cheap effective terrorist tactics. Have you figured how you will cover your loss to the Rag Tag Taliban and the sandlefooted Vietcong?

Neither.  The USA is too far away to be practical for South Africa to attack it.

The USA's military is so expensive that it's impractical to use it.

    Both sides lose.

When is the last time USA won a war?

Okay, a general basic examination starts here:

South Africa was ranked as having the 29th greatest military strength in the world – only behind Egypt (9th) and Algeria (28th) in Africa. While the country has retained its ranking as one of the strongest forces on the continent (African continent), funding issues means that the future of the defence force remains in doubt.

The US of course because SA does not have nukes which is the only deterrent available to getting attacked by the USA.
