a foodcart vendor learned that by pricing the burritos at $7 each sales reach 200 a day and pricing at $9 they sell 150 ?

write a linear equation that models the number of burritos sold per day when the price is in x dollars each

    N = kx + c

    plug in the numbers to determine constants

    200 = k(7) + c

    150 = k(9) + c

    c = 200 – 7k

    c = 150 – 9k

    200 – 7k = 150 – 9k

    9k – 7k = 150 – 200

    2k = – 50

    k = –25

    c = 200 – 7k

    c = 200 – 7(–25)

    c = 200 + 175

    c = 375

    eq is

    N = –25x + 375

    check

    N = –25x + 375

    N = –25•7 + 375 = –175 + 375 = 200

    N = –25•9 + 375 = –225 + 375 = 150

    Let x = cost per burrito

          y = total day's sales

    You have 2 points ($7, $200) and ($9, $150)

    The slope can be calculated as

                  $200 - $150      50

          m = ----------------- = ----- = -25

                      $7 - $9          -2

    The linear equation that models the number of burritos sold per day is

         y - 200 = -25 (x - 7)

         y - 200 = -25x + 175

         y = -25x + 375   ..................ANS

    y = nx + b

    for x = $7, y = $200

     for x = $9, y = $150

    200 = 7n + b

    150 = 9n + b

    n = -25

    b = 375

    => y = -25x + 375
