Is oil sustainable?

No. It will never be. For several reasons.

* won't last to much longer. Especially as use increases with population.

* the effects of all fossile fuels on pollution must be lowered, radically and soon.

* New findings of oil fields are diminishing. At least from the 1990s.

* some oil must be saved for uses other than fuel. This is also used for medicine and plastic.

I don't think it is, oil is non renewable and damages the environment. I personally don't think oil could become sustainable, but people can utilize other sustainable energy sources like solar, wind, etc. Hope this helped

Oil is not inherently sustainable, nor is it eco-friendly, but that doesn't mean companies are not innovating their way towards longer-term sustainability.

No. It is not being renewed and once it is gone, it is gone. Its use as a fuel is also damaging to the environment, so it is never going to be sustainable.

No but there’s plenty left while we develop proper batteries for EV instead of fixing an arbitrary deadline when ICE cars will be banned and half developed solutions forced on us.

No. There is a finite amount of it. Using it also has negative effects on the environment- pollution, for example, and the petroleum product plastic choking the waterways. We need to find alternatives.

We don't know how much oil is available so we can't know if it is sustainable. Obviously it is wise to find alternatives.

no.  oil was created by the earth's geology over a period of tens of millions of years -- by definition, it isn't sustainable with present technology.  now, if there is, one day, a tailored microbe that eats plastic and allows the hydrocarbons to be recovered for reuse, then the argument changes.  however, that day isn't now.  -- grampa
