How do first responders feel about homeless people?

    Depends upon the first responder.

Some first responders never forget that they are dealing with human beings.  That is what the job is about.  They care about each and every person they are called on to assist.  They understand that sometimes homeless people have mental illnesses that they cannot control, perhaps due to a chemical imbalance or a situation that occurred in their life through no fault of their own.  These first responders feel a lot of compassion for the homeless, and they do all they can to be of assistance without judging.

Other first responders get very jaded.  Often these are judgmental people to begin with, and they can't imagine that they, themselves, would ever be in such a situation as a homeless woman or man.  Perhaps these first responders start out as caring people but, over time, they lose their compassion.  Sometimes, this kind of first responder is not a "people person," and they get overwhelmed.

The truth is that there is no one way all first responders feel.  It is up to the individual.
