Why did the United States invade panama in 1989?

    Because a faction that was hostile to the US was forcibly seizing control of Panama and with it control of the Panama Canal, which threatened US national security and interests and led the US to invade in order to thwart the hostile takeover so that the theretofore US-friendly government would remain.
