what are electric vehicles made from where do the materials the battery's are made of come from how do you recycle them at the end of their life ?

Open cut mines don't require lots of diesel do they?

The 1000 EV's.  Because the vast majority of EV's can not be powered by coal power electric plants.  The state of California does not import electricity from coal powered states and California is 100% natural gas.

1000 electric vehicles powered by coal ...

How does the gasoline get to the pumps other than by lots of trucks hauling it around the country?

False figures given to show EVs as greener than they are.

Gas cars 17- 21%? Maybe old American gas guzzlers but modern petrol engines can achieve 35% efficiency.

    Diesels can achieve 50%.

Oh and there are 5-10% transmission losses from power station to plug as well as considerable energy expended mining and transporting coal to the power station. Therefore, overall, an EV power from a coal fired station is worse than to a gas car in emissions.

How EVs benefit the planet depends on the emissions produced by generating the electricity .

One last point. The electricity you use is exactly the same as your neighbours regardless of company and whether you pay extra for green electric. It may or may not been generated by countryside wrecking wind factories but it’s just as likely to come from coal in sone areas.

Note: coal is only 23.4% of our electricity, so your case is extreme.  Coal plants average 37% efficiency (natural gas = 45%-50%; 1/2 the carbon footprint).  Multiply that by 85% EV charging efficiency, & by 90% electric motor efficiency.  Gas cars put 17%-21% of energy to the wheels.  The coal powered electric car still wins at 28% overall; carbon footprint about equal.

Source(s): THE ABOVE IS PURE HORSEPOWER*HOURS TO THE WHEELS . IT NEGLECTS THE BENEFITS OF REGENERATIVE BRAKING WHICH ARE HIGHTLY VARIABLE, LIKE 10% TO 30% . IT ALSO NEGLECTS THE DISTRIBUTION INEFFICIENCIES OF GASOLINE . IT TAKES ENERGY TO REFINE & TRANSPORT . I'LL MAKE A WILD GUESS AND SAY THAT WASTES ONE BTU OUT OF 5 . I DRIVE A PHEV, AND PAY OUR ELECTRIC COMPANY A BIT MORE AS PART OF A PROGRAM TO BUY RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY.

modern deisel driven cars , ask volvo. you will see deisel driven cars in future , why take an hour when your electric goes flat or you run out of power .see if diesel isnt the way to go , less pollution the gasolene and no need to build more power staions .

the sad part is that the oil companies have bought up  and locked up the patents for car engines that get 300 MPG .
