If I was exposed to lab animal blood, what should I do?
I was in a research lab, and we dissected a rat. It's a rather long story, but at the end of the lab I accidentally scraped my finger with the scalpel I used to cut open the rat. I immediately washed my hands thoroughly multiple times. I talked to my lab partner and friends and they said that I should be fine because the formaldehyde is a germicidal agent and the rat was sterile. Only one person has raised concerns and now I'm freaking out. I know it was stupid of me to not report it. Should I just go to the doctor? Am i overreacting?

Nothing to do. If the rat was a dissection specimen it is sterile and processed just keep an eye on it for regular wound care
