Why did you blame the downward economy on Trump when he was for re opening businesses ?

Now Democrats, after supporting strict shutdowns, are all for re openings....how sweet it is. Newsom in California, Cuomo in NY, and Lightfoot in Chicago. All these people essentially shut down peoples' lives just to make Trump look bad.

Sadcat-The goal from the beginning was to slow the spread. It’s impossible to completely stop it, because if it were possible, the flu and common cold would no longer exist. Why are New York, California and Chicago suddenly eager to reopen? This is indisputable evidence that their shutdowns were done to ruin Trump’s presidency.

There was an infectious disease.  A shutdown would have slowed or even stopped its spread.  Yes, it damages the economy.  But if we have to shut down business for a YEAR--as we now have--that's far worse than shutting down for 2-3 months.  What did Trump do?  He DENIED that the virus would be a long-term problem, OPPOSED shutdowns that would have allowed us to work through it more quickly, OPPOSED mask mandates, which would have slowed the spread even more, DISBANDED the pandemic response team that had been set up for just such events, and INSISTED on unproven, junk science as a cure.  Taken together, these are the worst failures in leadership in the entire history of the United States.

Trump didn't shut down any states. States and cities did that. You don't know how government works. Don't worry, Trump didn't either.

Because he did nothing to manage the pandemic, the economy cannot reopen till the pandemic is managed, him doing nothing about the pandemic makes him responsible for both the pandemic and the bad economy

They are certainly not re-opening because it's now safe. The numbers today are worse than when they locked down.
