If Covid is so contagious why didn't I get it after close contact ?
My sister had it and she was my passenger in a small car and neither of us wore masks. She had been sick a month earlier with a cough but got better than got sick again two days after the ride and tested positive for covid.

People with sufficient levels of vitamin D are significantly less likely to get covid.
People with blood type O are also less likely to get covid.
You don't say how long the car ride was. If it was less than 15minutes you were unlikely to have enough viral load to cause an infection.
If you are 3.2 feet away from someone you are 82% less likely to get covid.
Covid transmission is EXACTLY like the cold and flu.

So what happened to your contact, your wife, mother, kids, and co-workers?

You got lucky, there mustve been a low viral load so not much virus ejected from her mouth. The distance between you guys reduced the chances, you probably didn't touch a contaminated surface and touch your mouth/nose/eyes etc
