True.  Before the Federal Reserve, our economy was stuck in a cycle of boom-bust that regularly caused bankruptcy and starvation.  Financial markets and institutions are kept honest by constant government oversight.  Beyond the Fed & SEC, other interventions are occasionally required. "Businessmen know best" approach pushed most of our manufacturing overseas.
