Why does the news have to be so negative?

They always show footage of the one bus that crashed that day... what about all the busses that DIDN'T crash?

Unless the news is really grim most news bulletins I watch end with some lightweight positive story, usually about kids or animals.

Most busses don't crash.  This is not news.  The news reports extraordinary events.  A bus crashing is an extraordinary event.  Sometimes the news reports good extraordinary events, such as an athlete winning a Heisman trophy.
