What does this Symbol mean?

I got an old photo with a group of people(Probably from the 1800s), but the girls in the front are holding some symbol. What is it? What does it mean?

    Probably a sorority emblem.

Probably a women's school from 1901. But no one can tell for sure. From the picture it could be:

    A women's college

Finishing school. [Men didn't go to these] they're well dressed.

Something to do with a women's club. [Everybody thinks it's a school]

It may be the emblem of a high school's Class of (19)01. The letter on top is probably a "T" (though it could be a "Y"), and notice the other two letters flanking the '01 on the bottom: "H" and "S". It's T----- High School or Y----- High School.

And it's not from the "1800s" -- they didn't have photography in 1801. They did in 1901, and also in 2001 but the clothing doesn't really go with 2001, does it?

    Not Greek letters

    so I'm thinking:

    not a sorority

probably the initials of a High School

with the year of the graduating class

like "Townville High School, class of '01".

That's the class of 01--- 1901. It's symbol of the college or a sorority or other group.
