I've never understood how to play Blackjack aka '21' - in a nutshell, what are the damn rules of this game?

I need to learn it cos in the past when I played it with my pals I didn't have a clue what I was doing and they'd be like 'dude you got a black jack...'

and im saying something moronic like 'yeah,  i'll push. no wait,  actualy guys just hit me.  actually I'll cash out...'

and they're all just looking at me confused.

so in order to be fun to be around at a table playing games like this, I must learn them.
