What does the name Skeletor mean? And why is that the name of the main villain in the He Man show?

Donnie Porko is absolutely right. Almost all the names of the characters in the MOTU series are a little "on the nose" as far as descriptors go.

To add some more detail, Skeletor was originally Keldor, King Randor's older half-brother. After attempting to overthrow Randor and having an acid pod ricochet off Randor's shield back onto his own face, it melted Keldor's face and would have been fatal had he not used his magic to sustain himself, becoming Skeletor.

It’s a play on skeleton. Haven’t you noticed that Skeletor looks like a skeleton.
