What causes a gateway to be unable to connect to my Broadband?

I moved to a new place and have been trying to use the Internet with a new AT&T gateway. However, I received a message that said that the gateway could not connect to my Broadband service. Why do I get this kind of message?

The activation date is supposed to be today.

You mentioned new AT&T gateway? That means you have a new router/modem? Has it already been activated?
