If it is fiberglass or metal it should be fine. If it's cloth tape, plastic or fabric it could have stretched or shrunk. Compare the units to a rigid ruler of wood,, metal or plastic. If the inches or cms are the same then it's okay. If the tape has longer or shorter inches then get rid of it.

If it is too old, it may not reflect the change in measuring units that occurred about seven years ago.
