Is it very hard for most alcoholics to quit drinking?

I’m high functioning and I drank out of boredom, so I found it fairly easy to quit after detox.  If you’re more severely alcohol addicted, is it really hard to quit?  If so, how hard?  What does it compare to?

No, it isn't. 

It's staying sober that is the challenge.

It's almost impossible for a person that is a drug addict or alcoholic to just quit the best thing that such a person can do is get professional help right away
