My dvd-rw is not reading or recognizing rw dvds anymore, but it does read CDROMs. Anyone know why?

there are two lasers inside a CDRW drive, one for reading and one for writing, the laser that wrights may be out of alignment or may be broken all together, it would be less expensive to replace it then to try to get it repaired
