Can you help me with English please?

The first time I had heard the voice of God in my soul, inviting me to embark on a more perfect life, was when I was seven.

1. What does "embark on" mean in this case?

2. What does the expression "inviting me to embark on a more perfect life" mean exactly?

Thank you!

I would leave out the had.

    1.  embark means to start on the journey.

    2.  inviting me to embark on a more perfect life means giving you the option to choose a better life style.

I suggest you buy a dictionary. These are not rare or technical words.

"inviting me" means persuading me - "embark on" means to begin.
