A lot of people tithe 10% of their income to Religion. Without the tax write off wouldn't it be 5%, or 2%; give at the plate and exaggerate?

The federal tax write-off rules have changed radically over the last decade, and they are extremely hard to claim. So this is usually a moot issue nowadays.

If you give cash, the deduction is only 50%, up to $250 deduction ($500 donation).
If you want to tithe 10%, if you itemize your taxes, it's better to write a check/online donation for he amount to the Church.
