My friend did not let me pay for her coffee. Is she not interested in me as a potential date?

I asked her to coffee in my neighborhood while we both live in the same city. Since she is visiting, I offered to pay but she wanted to pay for herself. Is this a bad sign? It was not a date but just hangout.

No - it just means that she's financially independent.

She may or may not see you as a potential 'date'.

Don't read too much into it, but wouldn't expect a date any time soon. Keep at it but don't obsess. Call her to talk, (not the texting bs that is so impersonal) tell you had a nice time and see if she would like to do it again or dinner - you will know after that conversation what your status is likely to be.
