Is this true ?

I had a friend tell me that I don’t know as much as her or couldn’t understand her because she is a mother and I am not.

On topics like pregnancy and childrearing that's probably true. But it's not like just giving birth somehow makes you an expert on everything. It does tend to make you more practical though.

She sounds condescending and no, that's not true. Being a parent doesn't make suddenly make someone a genius.

Oddly, it is.  I didn't get it before I became a father but there are just some parenting experiences that you have to go through to really understand.  I do think that your friend was being a bit too dismissive of your ability to empathize though.  You don't need to go through something to give support to someone that is going through it.  If that makes any sense.
