Depends on the size of the unit. I replaced my old one several years ago on my 2 bedroom house with 2 full size baths for $4,200. The house before that, which was about the same size, cost $5,000. Ask around and compare prices.

"Split systems" are WAY cheaper to run and buy than "ducted" systems.  Why?  Because they use much less electricity.

Budget $10,000 for a complete replacement of all equipment for a typical 3+ ton AC.  A coil, furnace, blower, outside unit and especially the thermostat.  New gas hose connector, etc.  The plenum and ducts should be good, if you put in good ones originally.  Get all components to be matched.  Fix the insulation on the ducts, may be add more.  You should also have them clean the ducts, especially all the registers.
