Does this violate HIPAA?

Question

I work at a doctor's office. We print out everything the doctor needs to see on each patient, and put them in folders. Someone I work with will take home the stuff they've printed, and put it in folders at home. They live with other people. Is this a HIPAA violation? Should I let the supervisor know?

You should ask,  I would not want my medical information to be taken home by an employee, What if something happened to that person, what would happen to my information?   What if I had a medical emergency and that information was not available because someone took it home?

Don't you have your medical records stored in a computer?

It is potentially, yes.  That is not something they should be allowed to do, because a HIPAA violation would be very easy
