why is Pence & his family not attending Trump's departure speech tomorrow before the Inauguration ceremony?

Perhaps because a handful of Trump's followers want to kill him. That would be my guess.

Because they had already accepted Biden's invitation to the Inauguration.

Pence knows that it will be best for his future to look like a sane, gracious human being -- unlike little Donnie, with whom he is on the outs for reasons everyone knows.  Best to forge a good relationship with the new president from the get-go and try to make everyone forget he was ever associated with what's-his-name, who will soon be fading into obscurity everywhere but the courts.

He didn't "turn on" Trump. He simply told him, truthfully, that he did not have the legal authority to refuse to accept the Electoral College votes for Biden and got no thanks for it from little Donnie.
